Why an Escape Room Is the Best Christmas Party Idea This Year
Every year, someone asks the same question.
“So… what are we doing for the Christmas party?”
Cue twenty different opinions.
“Dinner?”
“Bowling?”
“Drinks?”
“Mini golf?”
Then someone throws out a different idea.
"What about an escape room?"
Suddenly, everyone’s curious.
Whether you’re organising a work Christmas party, celebrating the end of the season with your sports team, catching up with friends, or planning a social club get together, an escape room offers something that many traditional Christmas parties don’t.
Instead of everyone doing their own thing, you become part of the same adventure.
At Narrow Escape Rooms Penrith, we’ve seen teams of all kinds leave talking about the experience long after the game has finished. That’s exactly what makes an escape room such a memorable way to celebrate the end of the year.
More Than Just Another Christmas Party
One of the things that makes an escape room different from many Christmas party activities is that it creates a shared experience, not just a shared venue.
Unlike going to the movies, where you can sit quietly with hundreds of other people, or activities like bowling or axe throwing where you’re often competing against each other, an escape room gives your group a common goal.
The competition is against the clock, not each other.
Your team wins by working together.
Because our escape rooms are designed for smaller groups of 2 to 8 players, the experience feels personal. You’ll naturally play with the people you know best, whether that’s your closest workmates, your teammates from sport, or your friendship group.
That smaller team size means everyone gets involved. One person spots hidden clues, another solves a code, someone else notices the detail everyone overlooked. Before long, you’re celebrating each breakthrough together.
Those are the moments people remember.
Perfect for Every Type of Christmas Celebration
Work Teams
If you’re rewarding your staff after a busy year, an escape room gives everyone the chance to relax and enjoy themselves together.
For businesses wanting something more structured, we also offer dedicated team building packages, including Reward and Recognition, Enhancing Communication and Collaboration, and Creating High Performing Teams through our partnership with Worth Coaching.
These packages combine the fun of an escape room with meaningful reflection and professional development for teams wanting even more from their Christmas celebration.
Sports Teams
After months of training, game days, and working together on the field, Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate as a team.
An escape room gives your players the chance to work together in a completely different environment. Instead of relying on physical skills, they need to communicate clearly, share ideas, trust each other’s instincts, and solve problems under time pressure.
The skills that help teams escape are often the same ones that build stronger teams on the field, including communication, collaboration, and supporting each other when the pressure is on.
Best of all, it doesn’t feel like another training session. It’s a fun way to celebrate the season while strengthening the connections that can carry into next year’s games.
Friendship Groups
If your annual Christmas catch up usually involves deciding where to eat before everyone disappears home, try something different.
Escape rooms create shared stories.
We regularly hear groups laughing about “that simple puzzle they overcomplicated” or “can you believe what happened” well after they’ve finished playing.
Clubs and Community Groups
Girl Guide and Scout groups.
Rotary clubs.
Toastmasters.
Dance schools.
Volunteer groups.
Book clubs.
Escape rooms are a fantastic way to bring people together outside their usual routine while giving everyone a chance to contribute.
Launch, Undetected and The Inheritance each accommodate up to 6 players, while Hidden Temple and Mission Identity accommodate up to 8 players.
Across all five rooms, we can host up to 34 players at one time, making us a great option for everything from small friendship groups to larger workplace celebrations.
Why Booking Early Matters
Christmas is one of our busiest times of the year.
Fridays and weekends fill quickly as work teams, families, sports clubs, and friendship groups all start planning their celebrations.
Booking early gives you the best chance of securing your preferred room and time.
If you’re booking multiple rooms for a larger group, our website may show start times fifteen minutes apart to help manage arrivals. If you’d like everyone to arrive together, simply give us a call and we’ll help coordinate the schedule.
If you’re organising one of our facilitated corporate team building packages, we recommend booking at least one month in advance to allow time for planning.
A Christmas Party People Will Actually Remember
One of my favourite things about working at Narrow Escape Rooms is hearing what people say after they’ve finished.
Sometimes it’s: “How did you come up with those puzzles?”
Sometimes it’s: “I can’t believe we missed that clue!”
And sometimes it’s simply watching a group walk out still talking about the game as they head off for dinner or drinks afterwards.
That’s the difference.
The escape room becomes the story everyone keeps talking about.
Whether you’re celebrating with workmates, teammates, your social club, or your closest friends, an escape room is more than just another Christmas party. It’s a shared adventure.
This year, skip the predictable and give your group something they’ll still be talking about long after Christmas is over.
Gather your team. Book your adventure. And let the countdown begin.
